Skin Bar NYC has built a reputation for quality and value by matching the best trained estheticians with the most advanced technology available on the market. All at a fair and affordable fee to clients in New York City. Just a few months ago, I blogged about the importance of maintenance and upgrades for lasers used to remove unwanted hairiness. That same month I invested $50,000 to outfit 2 of our lasers with entirely new software and pump chambers. These investments while costly ensure predictable results and happy clients. In my view that’s just good business.
At Skin Bar NYC we take pride in being leaders in our industry and setting the trends that other spas follow. We were the first to introduce skin care memberships to New Yorkers, and today it is being copied by every other top spa in town. In keeping with our pioneering spirit, today I am happy to announce the newest addition to the Skin Bar NYC team. We are the first in Midtown to take possession of the newly released Cynosure Apogee Elite +. This new laser has lots of the same features our clients are used to. It even looks very similar on the outside. But, the inside of this puppy has been souped-up like a pretty little four wheel drive that Carrie Underwood would be proud of.
The Cynosure Apogee Elite + is built on the same technology platform that powers the Cynosure Apogee Elite. (If you are a Skin Bar NYC client you have been treated on the Cynosure Apogee Elite.) So, the laser wavelengths and treatment features are all the same. Which means that the results and predictability our clients have grown accustomed to will not change. But, there are a few important changes that make the Apogee + very exciting.
Ladies, bare with me as I nerd out and take you for a look under the hood of this marvelous new technology. Fellas, if you like cars you’ll enjoy this tour.
Size Matters
The Cynosure Apogee Elite + is equipped with a new higher voltage power supply that can power a hand-piece up to 24 mm in size. Its predecessor is limited to a 15 mm hand-piece due to the limited output of the older power supply. The size of the hand- piece determines the size of the treatment spot. When you have a laser treatment the spot size is what you see when the red light glows on your skin. (By the way- the red light is just a guiding light for the laser technician, it is not the actual laser beam.)
The Cynosure Apogee Elite + comes standard with an 18 mm hand piece. But, there is an option for a larger hand-piece upgrade that I just couldn’t resist. The larger hand piece kits includes 3 additional hand pieces, 20 mm, 22 mm and 24 mm. Until now this was never an option on any laser available on the market. And Skin Bar NYC is the first to have it!
The difference between a 15 mm and 24 mm hand piece is more than just 9 mm. Indeed, each 1 mm larger the laser spot grows is exponential. So, a 24 mm hand piece is actually treating a surface area about 100% larger in size per pulse.
Why should you care? Besides drastically improving treatment flexibility, the optional larger hand-piece kit means faster treatments on larger areas like full legs and full back. Translation- less “ouch factor”, and more time back to your busy lifestyle.
I Can’t Take the Pain!
Speed is important. This laser pulses 2x faster than any previous technology. Pulse time is the time lapse between beeps when you are having a laser treatment. Faster pulses mean speedy treatments and less time under the laser. Less laser time means less discomfort. Combine faster pulse rates with larger hand pieces and treatment spots and if you have true a treatment that is a comfy as can be.
But there’s one more thing. A larger hand-piece means the laser has to deliver more energy through the hand-piece to reach and cover a larger surface area. That means the depth of the energy absorbed by the skin is more shallow and precise at reaching the hair follicle. Another benefit on the “ouch factor” rating. Since there is less energy your skin has to absorb the more comfortable the treatment will be.
This was a big factor for me in deciding to invest over $150,000 in a new laser. I hear from clients every day that the fear of pain keeps them from pulling the trigger on laser hair removal. This new technology should put those fears to rest. But, don’t take my word for it come in for a FREE test spot and see for yourself.
If It Ain’t Broke Don’t Fix It
As I mentioned before, the core technology of this new machine is exactly the same as the technology that we have always used. The Apogee + still relies on the proven, YAG and Alexandrite wavelengths for the safe treatment of light and dark skin clients. The internal components are all the same from the pump chambers to the rods and fiber that transmit the laser beam.
The new features like the power supply and hand-pieces are all recognizable to our clients that have been with us for years, but the experience will be a little different- A little more comfy and a lot faster!
If you have been considering laser hair removal, ask how old the technology is that you are being treated on? And find out the last time it was serviced and overhauled. Or come to Skin Bar NYC and you won’t ever have to worry about asking those questions.
