Pumpkins are a staple during the Halloween season. Without pumpkins there would be no decorative jack o’lantern to welcome “trick or treaters”. Can you imagine the Fall season without the sweet taste of pumpkin pies? Yes, it’s safe to say we associate pumpkins with the season- but skin care? Hmmm, that’s a new one.

You probably didn’t know that pumpkin peels are super popular treatments at spas this time of year. The peel smells just like the pumpkin pie you love to eat, but in this case your skin enjoys the benefits that are usually enjoyed by your tummy.

What will the pumpkin peel do for my skin?
It is a safe, natural alternative to chemical peels and is good for any skin type. Pumpkin peels can be done as a full service or as an add-on to a facial. There is no down time with a pumpkin peel so you can resume normal activities right after your service. It’s a great addition to traditional facials and laser facials boosting exfoliation to improve the tone and texture of the skin. And it has a brightening effect too! Add a pumpkin peel to an IPL treatment to promote healing by stimulating the regeneration of cells while fighting off the free radicals created during the service.

It’s all about the enzymes.
Pumpkin contains the highest concentration (among vegetables) of Vitamin A (beta carotene), a highly active antioxidant. It targets the cell receptors responsible for activating cell turnover and stimulates growth of the base layer of the epidermis, helping the cells progress to maturity and giving structural integrity to both the epidermis and the dermis.

Pumpkin also contains proteolytic enzymes, which help in breaking down the keratin bond between dead cells. This allows the sloughing of the outer layer of dead cells without damaging the inner living cells. Vitamin C, also present in pumpkins, is another active antioxidant beneficial in warding off free radicals.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) penetrate the layers of the skin, encouraging the turnover of the cells in the epidermis and the follicles – post treatment – bringing younger cells to the surface and cleansing the follicles of debris and dead cells. In addition the skin normally feels tauter following this treatment.

The combination of ingredients and antioxidants strengthen the skin’s defenses against free radicals, fighting the ravages of aging and stimulating collagen and elastin production.

Is the pumpkin peel safe for all skin types?
The pumpkin peel is a powerful natural repair therapy. Sensitive and acne prone skin respond better to the pumpkin peel because it is not as intrusive as a chemical peel. It reduces the stress on the skin because of its natural ingredients and provides a full complement of Vitamin A that decreases the oxidative and free radical stress associated with other intense treatments.

So what are you waiting for? Get your pumpkin peel on today. This month members enjoy a FREE pumpkin peel add-on. Add it to your facial, IPL or laser genesis for a real boost.
