Ditch Discoloration

How To Choose The Right Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment

Summer is officially over and the long days of summer are winding down and giving way to shorter, cooler days. While this may be a bummer for many of us, there is a silver lining. With the fall season comes a new opportunity for renewal.

Fall is one our busiest seasons at Skin Bar. And for good reason. As our summer golden glow slowly wears off, the unfortunate damage of sun exposure reveals itself. Our members begin to clamor for laser skin rejuvenation like IPL, Fraxel, Laser Facials and Clear + Brilliant. Lasers deliver fast predictable results with little to no downtime. So, for busy New Yorker’s it’s an obvious solution.

Laser treatments can do amazing things but, they are not without risk.  So, it is important to know what laser is right for your skin type and condition. And get know the rules about sun exposure before and after treatment as well as medications and products that are contraindicated when having laser. I always recommend scheduling a consultation and enlisting the help of a skin care expert to steer you toward the right procedures.

Define your goals is a great place to start in determining what type of laser treatment you require. Before you arrive for your consultation, you should have an idea of what you would like to change or correct. Armed with that knowledge a professional skin care expert can design a plan just for you and your needs.

If its sun damage you want removed then IPL is hands down the best option for you. Sun damage leaves dark spots and discoloration on your skin’s surface. The effects of sun damage make your skin appear older than it really is. Did you know that more than anything else, sun damage makes you look older than your age? believe it or not It’s true sun damage even trumps wrinkles and fine lines.

IPL targets brown and red pigmentation in your skin and gives it a pulse of intense light that turns the damage dark and then like magic disappears from your skin. Optimal results are usually seen after a series of 3-6 treatments.

Fine lines and wrinkles are caused by age and drastically accelerated with sun exposure. The elastic cells that give your skin it’s plumpness give way over time to expressions and genetics, leaving lines and creases on our face, neck an hands.Thankfully these lines and creases can be reversed if caught soon enough.

The best treatment with the fastest results is Fraxel. Fraxel resurfaces the skin from the inside out and stimulates new collagen growth to fill in lines and wrinkles after a series of treatments. Fraxel is not inexpensive and usually requires a couple days of downtime.

For a more cost effective laser without downtime I recommend a Laser Facials. Laser Facials are a relaxing, soothing treatment that feels like your basking in the sun. Really. If you are new to laser treatments you should try a Laser Facial. Laser Facials slowly heat up layers of tissue below the surface to stimulate collagen and even skin tone over time when done consistently. Laser Facials are great for the reduction of fine lines and moderate wrinkles, but we love to perform them for preventive anti-aging.

If lasers just aren’t your thing there are other effective options as well. Consider LED Light Therapy, Diamond- dermabrasion, facials and chemical peels. All these treatments work well over time to renew damaged skin, but they are slower getting you to the finish line. Most sun damage is superficial, with just one exfoliating treatment you will see a difference.
