Look Out! Hot Towels Coming Through.

This month Skin Bar NYC started adding hot towel treatment to every facial. We have always used steam in our facials and will continue to do so, because steam is best for extractions. Hot towels will add a new dimension to our facials that is sure to please even the most discerning clientele. Hot towel treatment feels divine and is great for prepping your skin. Some high end spas in NYC use hot towel treatment, but my inspiration came from my neighborhood barbershop.

I love an old school barbershop shave. Besides the awesomeness of a razor that can trim whiskers super tight, it’s the skin preparation that really makes the experience sensational. And it’s the hot towel treatment that steals the show.

As old school and out of date as barbershop inspiration may sound; there’s a trick or two we can learn from the local barber. (Did you know in the old days, barbers doubled as the town surgeon?) Barbers learned long ago that the best way to prep ones skin before sliding a straight razor over the length of it was to open the pores and soften the hairs. The result was less friction and reduced irritation.

Today we use hot towels for some of the same reasons, but the benefits are far greater when used in a facial.

Cleanse: While your skin absorbs needed moisture for hydration, heat lifts dirt and oil right to the surface leaving your dermis squeaky clean. Gently wrapping the towel on your face and then letting it steep for a few minutes allows the heat and moisture to penetrate your skin, opening pores and loosening dead superficial cells.

Unclog pores: When your pores are open they are easier to clean. Black heads can be extracted with less force and professional products penetrate the skin deeper. Deeper penetration means the products used will work better. And products that work better means your skin looks better.

Relax sore muscles: Your face is full of muscles and pressure points. Do not underestimate the benefits of relaxation associated with hot towel treatments. When that towel comes into contact with your skin you’ll know what I mean. The effect is immediate as you feel the weight of a stressful day melt away under the warmth of a cozy towel gently folded over your face. For my money, this is the best part of a hot towel treatment. It’s going to make your facial feel like a real day at the spa.

Product penetration: At Skin Bar NYC we use only the highest quality products in your facials. Our product lines- Skinceuticals and Image Skin Care are backed by science. Healing serums, Stem cell technology and hydrating compounds all work better the deeper they penetrate into the skin. Hot towels help that process by lifting away surface toxins that act like a barrier to these products.

Help us welcome the newest step in our facials with open arms! It’s going to make you look and feel like royalty.
