We’ve made it halfway through the week – yay! This Woman Crush Wednesday (#WCW) we take a look at all those fair skinned beauties – Amanda Seyfried, Scarlett Johansson and Katy Perry to name just a few – and how they keep their skin fair, healthy and glowing!

Summer Sun

As we approach summer a lot of people are hitting the beach, trying to top up their tans, it’s a common misconception that tanned = beautiful. We’re here to prove you do not have to be tanned to be beautiful! Protecting your skin from harmful UV rays is most important of all, as overexposure to the sun can cause a number of health problems. It can cause skin cancer, sunspots, sunstroke, and heat exhaustion, to name but a few. It can also result in premature aging of your skin.

Knowing Your Skin Type

The more you know about your skin type the better! Knowing your skin type can help you understand how your skin reacts to the sun’s UV rays, which products to use, lasers and more. How to determine your skin type? The Fitzpatrick Scale is widely used as a way to classify the typical response of different types of skin to UV light. Your skin type can range on the scale from one to six. Type one being pale skin that burns very easily through to six being dark brown or black skin that never burns and tans very easily. The lower number you are on the scale, the more aware you need to be of the sun’s effects and various ways to protect your skin. Our Estheticians are fully trained and will determine which type you are.

Fair Skin Is Beautiful

Just take a look at our favorite fair-skinned beauties and you’ll see that you don’t need to tan to be pretty. How to they maintain their glowing skin? Read on…

Amanda Seyfried on protecting her skin from the sun – “I apply my UV protection cream before I walk out the door”

Scarlett Johansson on natural skincare products – “If my skin is dull or I have red spots before a big event, I sweep raw lemon over it, to make it brighter. It stings a bit, but it’s not at all harming – it’s my favorite thing. I also add lemon to drinking water. Try it and you’ll be amazed at the instant glow it gives you.”

Katy Perry on ensuring she ‘glowed’ for her Vogue shoot (it might be quite extreme but her regimen is obviously working for her!) – “I did a lot of my own prepping… I went on a cleanse, I did a lot of stuff like vitamins and supplements, I changed my coffee to green tea, I didn’t drink alcohol for three months. I was really in the zone — I just wanted to be glowing for that cover.”

Taking Care Of Your Fair Skin

For you fair skinned beauties, ensuring you take care of your skin is more important than most, as it’s at a higher risk of sun damage. Follow these simple three rules to ensure your skin gets the protection it needs:

  1. Apply every morning, every season, rain or shine! 15-30 minutes before you go in the sun is ideal.
  2. If out in the sun for the day, reapply every 90 minutes to the entire body.
  3. Do not use anything lower than SPF 30. Those with fair skin should use SPF 50 for proper protection.

If you’re in and out of water, have patted yourself dry with a towel, or sweated, make sure you re-apply immediately.

Remember fair skin beauties, take care of your skin and it will thank you!
